A Farmer-Facing Ordering App for an Agritech Platform
The challenge
The startup's farmer users were placing input orders — seeds, fertilizer, equipment — through a call center, which limited how many orders the team could process during the narrow pre-sowing season and gave the company no structured order data to negotiate better supplier terms. Most target farmers had basic smartphones with inconsistent connectivity, which ruled out a typical data-heavy app design.
Our approach
We built a lightweight mobile app optimized for low-bandwidth conditions, with an offline-first order flow that synced once connectivity returned, and a simplified visual-first product catalog designed for users with varying literacy levels. Order data fed directly into the startup's supplier-side system, giving them structured demand data for the first time.
- Processed 3x the order volume during peak sowing season compared to the call-center-only process
- App functioned reliably in offline/low-connectivity conditions across field trials in 4 districts
- Structured order data enabled the startup to renegotiate volume pricing with two major suppliers
